Laboratory Courier

 

Summary:

Provide support to the Operations Department by transporting documents, materials and samples between labs.  This individual will also serve as support and back-up to the Laboratory Materials Handler.

 

Primary responsibilities for role:

● Transport documents, materials, and samples between labs

● Accurately and contemporaneously review and complete all documentation required to complete transfer of materials.

● Pack and unpack materials according to their storage conditions and standard operating procedures.

● Receive incoming materials and supplies ensuring proper documentation of receipt, labeling, segregation and storage conditions

● Ensure the warehouse, storage and dock areas are maintained in a clean and organized manner

● Stock and rotate Laboratory supplies according to date received/expiration date to ensure efficient use and minimize wastage

● Assist with biohazardous waste management, collate, review and file biohazardous waste manifests

● Assist Laboratory personnel with completing end of month inventory

● Assist with cleaning and stocking supplies in common work areas such as the break room, bathrooms, reception and conference rooms as necessary

● Assist facility persconnel with performing general facility maintenance and inspection as required
  

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must have a valid class C drivers license with a good driving record, Must be able to speak, read and write in English.  Writing must be legible and neat.  Must have basic math and computer skills, effective phone and interpersonal communication skills.  Must have the ability to apply rational thinking and understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written and oral instructions.  The employee must be able to operate a pallet jack and maneuver or move large, bulky items through doorways and halls to destination.

 

Education

  • High School diploma or GED

 

Experience

  • Typically requires no previous related experience.

 

Occupational Demands

Work is performed in a laboratory environment.  The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and arms, talk and hear.  The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perceiption and the ability to adjust focus.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to toxic and caustic chemicals, and frequently to biological hazards.  The employee will be required to work in a warehouse area where temperatures may reach or exceed 90⁰F during the summer months.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
