SUMMARY:

This position will assist in sample and blood product receipt, accessioning, and management for testing and other duties related to sample testing as approved by governing bodies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1 .     Follows all appropriate IBBI Standard Operating procedures.

  1. Prepares samples for analysis determining acceptability of samples within established guidelines.
  2. Processes and distributes samples and blood components.
  3. Performs computer data entry of donor sample shipment discrepancies.
  4. Operates pre-analytical instruments utilizing established protocols and quality control checks.
  5. Recognizes equipment malfunctions and technical problems; takes appropriate steps in solving and notifying supervisory and quality assurance personnel.

  1. Receives and accessions routine and back-up donor samples.
  2. Assists with the acquisition of donor social security numbers for the confirmatory testing process.
  3. Notifies supervision of any problem that may adversely affect test results.
  4. Assists supervision with regular inventory count of supplies.

1 1. Coordinates organizing samples between lab and processing areas for specialty orders.

  1. Position may be utilized for more complex laboratory duties, such as loading samples onto automatic pipettor devices.
  2. Special projects and other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

•      High school graduate with experience in a laboratory of blood processing environment. Must have good organization skills, communication skills, and basic computer knowledge.
