Summer Intern-Protein Discovery (Durham, NC)  

  

Description:  

  

The summer intern will assist in the development and optimization of an ELISA method(s) to measure a human plasma-derived protein to be used in pharmacokinetic studies in rodents. The intern will learn about working and collaborating in biological labs within an industrial setting, where they will work on improving the ELISA method to make it more accurate and reliable. They will test the methods to ensure it works well and make any necessary adjustments. The intern will also collect and analyze data, create summary tables and graphs, and help draft a technical report. At the end of the internship, they will present their findings to other departments. 

  

Requirements:  

  • Rising undergraduate junior or senior or graduate student with at least a 3.0 grade point average pursuing a degree in Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or related scientific field  

  • Proficiency in basic Microsoft Office software skills, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint. 

  • Proficiency in laboratory skills including multi-channel pipetting, buffer and reagent preparation, balance use, pH meter use, volumetric glassware use, and laboratory safety awareness. Comfortable working with potentially infectious biological fluids. 

  • Familiarity with ELISA methods and lab instrumentation, such as plate readers, and use of multi-well plates, such as 96-well plates, is a plus. 

  • Excellent record keeping skills, notebook maintenance, and communication skills. Ability to perform literature searches. 

  • Role is lab based and will require 5 days at the office in Research Triangle Park.
