Senior Chemist - (Failure Analysis Lab Investigator)

Senior Chemist - (Failure Analysis Lab Investigator): 

Summary: Primary investigator for product complaints and troubleshooting issues from manufacturing. Deal with lab issues, calibrations, PMs on equipment.

Senior Chemist: The Senior Chemist position includes all duties routinely completed at the Associate Chemist level as well as additional duties not routinely performed by all Associate Chemists. The additional duties may include performing exempt level review of test data (initial review through final disposition and reporting), ordering supplies for the laboratory or serving as a lab representative for various project or validation efforts or serving in the capacity as a primary trainer in the lab, or assisting the supervisor in conducting laboratory investigations. The Senior Chemist will be someone who is looked upon as a leader in the group. The Senior Chemist duties will consist of approximately 80% direct testing or testing related duties and approximately 20% non-direct testing duties (data review, ordering, training, etc.).

Primary Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

• Perform all activities typically completed at the Associate level (direct testing and/or direct testing related activities). These activities will comprise approximately 80% of job duties.
• Perform additional duties not routinely performed at Associate level. These additional duties comprise approximately 20% of the Senior job functions. These duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
• Perform exempt level review of test data when needed (initial review through final disposition and reporting)
• Responsible for ordering supplies for the lab.
• Serving as an assay SME (Subject Matter Expert) for a set of assays. Duties may include evaluating overall assay performance, training new employees, making sure that supplies get ordered and revising or redlining SOPs related to their area of expertise.
• Serve as primary trainer in the lab.
• The individual will be looked on as a leader within the laboratory.
• May be involved with scheduling activities for the lab.
• Perform laboratory investigations with laboratory management oversight. Executing and overseeing the completion of assay validations and providing support to various projects.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Demonstrate significant knowledge and competency related to a series of tests or testing area. Knowledge should be equivalent to SME level for a particular area. Must be able to work independently with minimal oversight. Should be seen as a leader within the lab. All work related errors should be minimal. Must consistently exhibit a high level of performance and have not received any type of formal verbal or written warning during the past 12 months.

Education:

Direct experience as a an Associate Biologist, Associate Biochemist, or Associate Chemist is required. Education requirements are the same as required for an Asst/Assoc Biologist, Asst/Assoc Biochemist, Asst/Assoc Chemist. Associates Degree with six months of applicable laboratory experience or Bachelors degree.

Experience:

NLT two years of experience as an Associate Biologist, Associate Biochemist, or Associate Chemist. The requirements specified in the “Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities” section must be met.

*Depending on the area of assignment, directly related experience or a combination of directly related education and experience and/or competencies may be considered in place of the stated requirements.  Example:  If a job level requires a Bachelor’s degree plus 4 years of experience, an equivalency could include 8 years of experience, an Associate’s degree with 6 years of experience, or a Master’s degree with 2 years of experience.

Occupational Demands:

Work is performed in an office environment with exposure to electrical office equipment. Frequently sits for 6-8 hours per day. Frequent hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists. Occasionally walks. Occasionally bends and twists neck. Light to moderate lifting and carrying objects with a maximum lift of 25lbs. Frequently drives to site locations with occasional travel within the United States. Able to communicate complex information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. Works independently with little guidance or reliance on oral or written instructions and plans work schedules to meet goals. Frequently interacts with others, relates sensitive information to diverse groups. Must work with diverse groups to obtain consensus on issues. Ability to apply abstract principles to solve complex conceptual issues.
