Description:

The department of Clinical & Manufacturing Sciences (CMS) in Clayton has an 8-to-12-week summer intern project planned to start in 2025 to evaluate a proposed yield improvement process. Process modifications evaluated at lab-scale will be implemented at pilot-scale to evaluate the proposed process. A significant amount of data will be collected during this phase which will require sample collection throughout the process, submission of samples to test labs, entry of process and analytical data, and data analysis and reporting. This internship will support the completion of confirmation runs as described above and provide exposure to various unit operations (e.g. precipitation and separation, chromatography, ultrafiltration and diafiltration, and virus filtration) associated with the purification of plasma therapeutics. In addition to the technical and analytical aspects of this internship, the intern will be exposed to process development within the Biopharma industry and provided the opportunity to present their work and experience at the conclusion of their internship.

 

Requirements:

  • Candidate must be currently enrolled in a 4-year degree program as a rising Junior, or Senior or as a graduate student pursuing a degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Bioprocessing Science, Chemical/Biochemical Engineering or equivalent.
  • GPA of at least a 3.0.
  • Computer literacy with proficiency in MS Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to document work in a laboratory notebook or other project related documentation
  • Proficiency in laboratory skills including pipetting, operating weigh balances, preparation of buffers/solutions, and general laboratory safety awareness
  • Basic skills necessary: Ability to communicate effectively, ability to work independently under direction
