The Medical Science Liaison as a field-based expert in the science of our therapies develops and maintains professional relationships with current and future thought leaders whose research, teaching, and publications are authoritative and whose opinions are considered important in the Hematology therapeutic area. Timely translation and communication of knowledge with key members of external healthcare communities and internal stakeholders is key to success in the MSL role. Current MSL primary call points include anesthesiologists, surgeons, blood bankers, and hematologists.
This is a full-time, remote position covering the Northeast region, including New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. The selected candidate should reside within the region and near a major airport.
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Identifies, develops, and maintains collaborative relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) through scientific exchange on emerging trends, evidence, and patient care practices, while assessing therapeutic area dynamics and unmet needs.
- Engages in one-on-one scientific exchange with therapeutic area experts to identify clinical insights.
- Supports the recent launch through continued nonpromotional scientific education.
- Maintains current knowledge of relevant literature, publications, guidelines, and standards of care within the therapeutic area and assigned territory.
- Serves as a scientific resource and trusted partner to leading academic physicians and researchers, selected academic centers, centers of excellence, and key accounts by providing complex medical and scientific information tailored to their needs.
- Serves as a research liaison for investigators interested in developing investigator-initiated research protocols.
- Strengthens cross-functional collaboration by supporting medical congresses, advisory boards, scientific presentations, medical intelligence activities, scientific speaker training, and company-sponsored clinical trial sites.
- Conducts formal scientific presentations, upon request, for appropriate healthcare audiences.
- Represents Grifols Medical Affairs and communicates the company’s scientific priorities, research interests, drug development activities, and corporate mission.
- Adheres to company policies and applicable regulatory and legal requirements while maintaining the highest ethical standards.

- Must reside within the Northeast territory, including New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine, ideally near a major airport.
- Strong scientific and clinical background with an advanced degree in a scientific field of study, such as a PharmD, MD, PhD, or advanced or master’s nursing degree.
- Typically requires a minimum of two years of related experience in clinical practice, academia, or the pharmaceutical industry.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Grifols’ philosophy and policies.
- Excellent interpersonal, strategic, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to understand, interpret, and communicate complex scientific and medical information and data.
- Ability to discuss highly technical information confidently with leading academic experts.
- Demonstrated computer literacy and ability to learn the programs and procedures used in the day-to-day responsibilities of an MSL.
- Self-directed, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to manage a demanding travel schedule and adapt to changing priorities.
*Must possess a valid driver's license in the state in which the employee works and meet the Qualifying Driver Criteria of the Grifols Fleet Program which includes but is not limited to a 5 year Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) lookback of major driving violations.
Depending on the area of assignment, directly related experience or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and competencies may be considered in place of the stated requirements. For example, if a role requires a bachelor’s degree plus four years of experience, an equivalent combination could include eight years of experience, an associate degree plus six years of experience, or a master’s degree plus two years of experience.
Work is performed in an office environment with exposure to electrical office equipment. Frequently sits for 6-8 hours per day. Frequent hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists. Occasionally walks. Occasionally bends and twists neck. Light to moderate lifting and carrying objects with a maximum lift of 25lbs. Frequent travel to site locations within assigned region by car or air with occasional domestic travel outside of region. Able to communicate complex information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. Works independently with little guidance or reliance on oral or written instructions and plans work schedules to meet goals. Frequently interacts with others, relates sensitive information to diverse groups. Must work with diverse groups to obtain consensus on issues. Ability to apply abstract principles to solve complex conceptual issues.

The estimated pay scale for the Medical Science Liaison role based in New York, NY is $165K-$185K per year. Additionally, the position is eligible to participate in up to 15% of the company bonus pool. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on education, experience, skillset, knowledge, where the role is performed, internal equity and market data.
