The Associate Director, Program Management leads interdepartmental development and commercialization programs. This role leads large, multi-year projects or numerous smaller projects of more limited scope. The role may also provide supervision for other project leaders, as needed. The Associate Director coordinates tasks and completes documentation required for design control. Additionally, this role develops and manages project budgets and timelines. Regular project status updates are required to executive management and external collaborators.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Manages large, complex, technically challenging programs
- Oversees multiple related programs and other project leaders as needed
- Establishes or oversees operational goals to meet strategic plans and objectives; Develops and manages Project Plan; Manages master schedules, resources and project/program budget
- Communicates project status to executive level management
- Facilitates internal and external information flow between team, senior management and corporate client(s) and/or partners
- Establishes and assures adherence to budgets, schedules, work plans, timelines and performance requirements for specified projects
- Completes project/program on schedule and within budget
- Assures risks are assessed and mitigations developed
- Assists with Design Control procedures and documentation as needed
- Identifies customer needs and manages their development and execution
- Ensures project /program compliance with procedures
- Participates in corporate development of methods, techniques and evaluates criteria for projects, programs and people
- Oversees outside partner relationships for programs
- Exercises wide latitude in determining objectives and approaches to critical assignments
- Assignments are typically long term and self-directed
- Performs other related duties as assigned

- Science/Engineering BS/BA degree or equivalent + 15 years’ related experience OR MS/MBA + 12 years OR Ph.D. + 10 years related experience required
- Must have a minimum of 7 years’ experience managing complex projects in medical diagnostic industry
- Must have experience in managing complex projects requiring integration of all core disciplines and functional areas and should include work with corporate partners
- Experience in Program Management of Diagnostic programs is desirable and experience with molecular test and/or instrument development is highly desirable
- Expert knowledge of Design Control procedures
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Expert knowledge in Product Development and Project Management/Leadership
- Ability to develop scope, plan and direction for programs integrating multiple technical functions
- Working understanding of deliverables from other functional areas from prior experience
- Familiarity with QSR and ISO 9000 regulations required
- Displays a practical understanding of how the organization operates and how to influence outcomes
- Expert in management of project risks
Work is performed in an office environment with exposure to electrical office equipment. Frequently sits for 6-8 hours per day. Frequent hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists. Occasionally walks. Occasionally bends and twists neck. Light to moderate lifting and carrying objects with a maximum lift of 25lbs. Frequently drives to site locations with occasional travel within the United States. Able to communicate complex information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. Works independently with little guidance or reliance on oral or written instructions and plans work schedules to meet goals. Frequently interacts with others, relates sensitive information to diverse groups. Must work with diverse groups to obtain consensus on issues. The estimated pay scale for the Associate Director, Program Management role based in Vista, California is $130,000.00 - $200,000.00 per year.
