Grifols Diagnostic Solutions Inc is seeking a Director, MDS Program Management in San Diego, CA. The Director, MDS Program Management will manages the Molecular Donor Screening (MDS) Program end-to-end, coordinating the full portfolio of initiatives and projects from ideation, strategy fit and road mapping through development, validation, regulatory readiness, launch, post-launching monitoring and lifecycle management. Own MDS program governance, the integrated master of projects plan, cross-functional resource alignment, budget oversight, and risk/issue/dependency management. Coordinate and engage with all the internal and external stakeholders of the Program for the achievement of the goals, including the members of the Executive Committee. Ensure the MDS Program receives appropriate executive visibility and delivers the intended business, operational, and financial outcomes across internal teams and external partners.

 

Individuals must have a master’s degree in chemistry, biology, or a related field (PhD and project management certification highly preferred), along with 13+ years of experience in a regulated industry—including prior IVD and multinational experience—at least 5 years as a program manager leading budgets and multi-project portfolios, proven ability to coordinate complex cross-functional initiatives with internal, external, and corporate partners, and prior experience managing direct reports.

 

Primary responsibilities for role:

  • Responsible for Managing MDS Program Core Teams and Program Steering Committees (PSC), ensuring aligned strategy, scope, priorities, and governance across the complete MDS portfolio (new products, improvements, and lifecycle initiatives) to meet project deliverables
  • Owns the program-level KPI framework and reporting to provide a 360º view of progress, benefits, quality, budget, cost, and timeline.
  • Manages timely escalation of risks, proactively identifies and implements solutions to minimize delays, and leads dependencies across workstreams.
  • Serves as primary interface with key partners for the MDS Program. Coordinates cross-company workstreams, ensures alignment on priorities and decisions, leads governance meetings (e.g., Joint Development Committees and Joint Steering Committees), agendas, minutes, and follow-up actions.
  • Drives integrated resource planning and execution across all functional areas for the MDS Program; manages interdependencies, prioritizes initiatives, ensures consistent program/project management standards, manages tracking and cadence across workstreams. Delivers continuous improvement and implement best practices in project management processes, tools, and methodologies to enhance efficiency and quality.
  • Establishes and maintains a program & portfolio management framework (i.e. master of projects, projects charters and timelines): roadmap, business cases, end-to-end cost estimates and consolidated budgets, scenario planning, and decision support to ensure top-priority initiatives receive leadership visibility and deliver expected value and timelines.
  • Collaborates with all the internal and external stakeholders of the Program for the achievement of the goals, including the members of the Core Teams, PSCs and the members of the Executive Committee. Creates and delivers presentations to varying audiences. 
  • Strategically partners with global cross functional stakeholders to drive company project and initiatives. Participates in planning and strategy meetings with stakeholders, influences decision-making, and ensure alignment with business objectives.
  • Manages financial performance to ensure projects stay within financial constraints.

  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills. Ability to lead, motivate and develop high performing teams in a collaborative and productive manner while driving accountability and empowerment
  • Ability to effectively drive change management and process optimization
  • Proficiency in project management software/tools

 

Education

Masters degree in chemistry, biology or similarly related field required.

PhD and Project Management certification is highly preferred.

 

Experience

  • Minimum of 13 years of experience working in regulated industry. Must have prior experience in the IVD industry and working with a multi-national organization
  • At least 5 years of experience as Program Manager/Program Leader managing budgets and multi-project portfolios;
  • Must have experience working and coordinating complex initiatives requiring integration of all core disciplines and functional areas, including working with corporate partners as well as internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prior leadership experience managing a team of direct reports

 

Equivalency

Depending on the area of assignment, directly related experience or a combination of directly related education and experience and/or competencies may be considered in place of the stated requirements.  Example:  If a job level requires a Bachelor’s degree plus 4 years of experience, an equivalency could include 8 years of experience, an Associate’s degree with 6 years of experience, or a Master’s degree with 2 years of experience.

 

Occupational Demands

Occasional travel will be required for this role up to 20%; this is a cross-site and multi-company/partner program.  Role will be located in San Diego. Significant presence in the site will be required, with very close interaction with the key of the site. Work is performed in an office environment with exposure to electrical office equipment. Frequently sits for 6-8 hours per day. Frequent hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists. Occasionally walks. Occasionally bends and twists neck. Light to moderate lifting and carrying objects with a maximum lift of 25lbs. Able to communicate complex information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. Works independently with little guidance or reliance on oral or written instructions and plans work schedules to meet goals. Frequently interacts with others, relates sensitive information to diverse groups. Must work with diverse groups to obtain consensus on issues. Ability to apply abstract principles to solve complex conceptual issues.

The estimated pay scale for the Director, MDS Program Management role based in San Diego, California, is $169,855 to $212,290. Additionally, the position is eligible to participate in up to 30% of the company bonus pool.
