POSITION SUMMARY
Refrigeration Mechanic will perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Mechanic will improve, repair, rebuild and do preventive and/or corrective maintenance work on all HVAC / Refrigeration equipment, along with all plant auxiliary systems connected to HVAC / Refrigeration systems.
- Perform highly skilled tasks including but not limited to pipe fitting, welding, tear down and inspection of compressors, along with rebuilding pumps, valves, and blowers.
- Make repairs to systems such as, changing motors, replacing bearings, belts, filters and charge refrigeration systems.
- Troubleshoot electrical control circuits.
- Ensure that equipment is repaired and maintained in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and/or manufacturer’s specification.
- Performs both scheduled and unplanned work on a wide variety of equipment and systems, including Preventative Maintenance (PM) and Corrective Maintenance work.
- Identify and report low performing or failing systems for pre-emptive corrective actions or upgrade suggestions.
- Supports implementation of upgrades and new engineering / maintenance projects.
- Takes the necessary actions to ensure equipment and/or environment is safe and consistent with relevant laws, codes and/or governing policies.
- Identify needed equipment, parts, and supplies necessary to complete repairs.
- Responsible for coordinating with manufacturing departments to perform work in a timely manner.
- May conduct root cause analyses.
- Strict adherence to procedures and practices according to FDA regulations.
- Strong emphasis on documentation according to FDA regulations.
- Adhere to departmental corporate safety policies.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/SKILLS & EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

- High School diploma or GED required. Trade School, Vocational Certificate, Associates Degree, or Military training in related field is highly preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years related industrial or commercial experience in maintenance of HVAC / Refrigeration equipment, preferably in a pharmaceutical, GMP, or FDA regulated environment.
- Equivalency: In lieu of 2 years of experience, candidate must have a minimum of an Associates Degree or Vocational Certification in HVAC / Refrigeration, or closely related technical discipline.
- Must be EPA Universal Certified and be able to provide copy of certification card.
- Requires a basic understanding in low and medium temperature Refrigeration & Air Conditioning applications, and repair/ maintenance of HVAC / Refrigeration systems.
- Must have experience in soldering or brazing pipe/tubing fittings.
- Possess full knowledge of the use of tools and equipment used in the HVAC / Refrigeration field.
- Able to repair and rebuild machinery or mechanical equipment.
- Working knowledge of Building Automation Systems is a plus.
- Must have strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify and resolve equipment problems.
- Demonstrated strong mechanical aptitude.
- Able to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings, Piping and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) drawings and schematics.
- Knowledge of safe and proper use of hand, power and measuring tools, as well as basic shop equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret equipment performance data.
- Must be proactive, results oriented, and have strong attention to detail.
- Self-starter with strong work ethic and the ability to exercise good judgment.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks to meet targeted deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with personnel at all levels in a team environment.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
- Computer literacy with proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Specific experience with SAP & AMMS is preferred.
- Must be flexible with working hours / shifts in order to accommodate the 24 hour, 7 day plant operation.
- May also be required to be on call, on a rotating basis.
Pay scale of $31.55 - $33/hour, depending on training, education, and experience. This position is eligible to participate in up to 5% of the company bonus pool.
