Position Summary:
This role is responsible for the Raw Materials Inspection program at Grifols Biologicals as well as ensuring that all GMP, company specifications, procedures and guidelines are followed in this process.
The primary responsibilities for the role are as follows:
- Manage the raw material inspection program to ensure that all GMP, company specifications, procedures and guidelines are followed.
- Plan and analyze workflow, delegate and prioritize, to ensure releasing conforming raw materials in timely and accurate manner.
- Monitor raw material test results generated by GB chemistry lab and contract labs.
- Lead the Commodity Service Evaluation Team to evaluate all requests related to commodities used the manufacturing, labeling, and packaging of products produced at GB.
- Manage all Commodity Evaluation Requests by assigning raw material classification levels based on risk factor, compiling and importing all required documents to support the closure process, and initiating/approving all raw material specifications.
- Support the Regulatory Compliance Department to review investigations reports (Supplier Corrective Action Reports (SCARs) from suppliers resulting from deviations generated during receipt or after raw material inspection.
- Provide direction, assess performance, training employees. Resolve administrative and technical issues.
- Interact effectively with others including Production Planning, Inventory Control, QC Lab, Purchasing and Manufacturing staff as well as outside suppliers to resolve quality issues associated with incoming materials, to determine formal corrective actions.
- Conduct investigation involving quality issues, assess product impact, and make critical decisions on lot disposition based on the investigation.
- Perform accurate quarterly inventory of quarantine areas.
- Provides leadership and direction to an exempt staff to improve supervisory skills and responsibilities.
- Communicates with cross functional departments and support groups to improve departmental performance and efficiency.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Assist in developing and implementing acceptable specifications.
- Assist in maintaining the calibration program for measurement instruments and maintaining all documentation.
- Provides tactical direction and immediate supervision to a group of employees by assigning tasks, checking work, and maintaining schedules.
- Creates positive relationships and engages with staff to inspire them to meet/exceed expectations and goals on a daily basis.
- Works on issues of limited scope, following established policies and procedures.
- Good tactical decision-maker.
- Frequently interact with supervisors and functional peer groups.
- Monitor costs and resource requirements for a subset of a department to optimize the effectiveness of company expenditures.
- May have minimal spending authority, including purchase requisitions and expense reports.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Life Science
- Three to five years of industry experience in Quality Assurance, Quality Control, or equivalent in pharmaceutical or medical industry. Experiences in warehouse and raw material inspection are a plus.
- Must possess knowledge of CFR and cGMPs
- Good verbal and written communication skills, excellent documentation skills in a GMP environment
- Critical thinking using logic and reasoning to identify and evaluate solutions and alternative approaches to quality
- Must lift 50 lbs.
The estimated pay scale for the Quality Raw Materials Manager role based in Los Angeles, CA, is $124,790 to $129,500 per year. Additionally, the position is eligible to participate in up to 15% of the company bonus pool. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on education, experience, skillset, knowledge, where the role is performed, internal equity and market data.
