Summary:
The Production Planning Manager is responsible for developing and executing a production plan that optimizes the utilization of raw material and manufacturing resources (people, plant, processes) to ensure on-time availability of products to support Sales while meeting Operational targets. The position ensures effective planning, compliance to company policies, and applicable regulatory requirements (ie. cGMP) and directs continuous improvement within areas of responsibility.
Primary Job Requirements:
- Develops and manages production plans and manufacturing activity levels for GBI in support of business forecast and operational targets, including establishing lead-times, lot sizes, and safety stocks.
- Responsible for developing and managing inventory targets to meet Sales & Operational goals including working with Plasma Operations to manage just-in-time deliveries of appropriate plasma material to support production plan. Monitors inventory to prevent loss due to expiration and for variance from standards impacting product availability. Ensure sufficiency of inventory mix to support product allocations per country-specific product license and plasma master file requirements.
- Analyzes sales and marketing requirements to identify production capacity and supply bottlenecks, provides risk/benefit analysis, and recommends actions for resolution. Optimizes utilization of bottleneck operations.
- Monitors manufacturing performance against budget and communicates issues that require corrective action with alternative solutions. Ensures timely resolution of issues especially those that may impact product availability and/or impede the flow of production.
- Directs production planning to ensure on-time availability of products to fill customer orders and on-time shipments. Establishes priorities for Manufacturing and Quality Operations to meet market demands. Communicates barriers in meeting required activity levels. Provides alternative solutions for capacity and throughput improvements.
- Develops demand plan, issues purchase orders for, and monitors delivery schedule of contract manufactured finished goods.
- Coordinates with Purchasing changes and updated requirements for purchased raw materials and supplies for production.
- Provides management with weekly and monthly analysis of plant manufacturing performance. Establishes and provides supply chain metrics. Chairs the monthly Production Planning meetings; develops and presents historical and long-term production schedules.
- Manages a staff of Buyers/Planners. Plans and organizes departmental responsibilities and participates in human resource issues. Sets goals and objectives, monitors and supports work completion and develops staff through coaching, continuous education and directing. Resolves inter/intra departmental conflicts.
- Develops, creates, edits and manages use of bills of materials for content accuracy and daily-use compliance.
- Ensures SAP is utilized compliantly to track inventory and schedule manufacturing. Manages the on-going maintenance and development of computer applications.
- Serves as a key contact for materials management issues and product launch/obsolescence plans. Partners with cross-functional teams (e.g., Regulatory Affairs, Commercial, Manufacturing, Quality Operations, Logistics, Purchasing) to create, resolve and/or execute plans/resolutions.
- Responds to Product Management issues.
- Domestic and Internaltional travel is required.
Education and Experience Rquirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Science or related field, CPIM certification or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least 5 years’ experience in Production/Supply Planning or an equivalent combination of work experience in a planning/manufacturing environment. Project or technical leadership experience required. Supervisory or management experience preferred.

- Strong negotiation skills with the ability to influence others to achieve the company’s vision.
- Knowledge of complex plasma processes and capacity constraints.
- Strong knowledge of ERP systems (i.e. SAP).
- Must have skills in conflict resolution, negotiations and problem solving.
- Be able to effectively manage a workforce of diverse employees and foster teamwork amongst business units.
- Have knowledge of Supply Chain management processes including inventory management, capacity planning and work center scheduling.
- Ability to provide high levels of customer satisfaction in a dynamic environment.
- Must have an overall perspective of business strategies and be able to maintain constant flow of input from senior management to assure proper prioritization.
- Strive to satisfy customer demands in an environment with many unknowns. Strong decision-making skills.
- Makes key decisions impacting overall business objectives pertaining to product deliveries, WIP dating and overall production throughput and product availability to patients.
The estimated pay scale for the Manager, Production Planning based in Los Angeles, CA, is $106,842 - $141,600 per year. Additionally, the position is eligible to participate in up to 8% of the company bonus pool. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on education, experience, skillset, knowledge, where the role is performed, internal equity and market data.
