Job Summary:
The Instrumentation Technician 1 is responsible for the repair, troubleshooting and calibrations for all production instruments.
Essential Job Duties:
- Perform daily and scheduled preventative maintenance calibrations of instruments including troubleshooting and repair, as well as perform high level calibrations to Metrology Standards.
- Responsible for calibrations, adjustments, replacement and repair to process and test equipment per Grifols Biologicals Inc.’s (GBI) Calibration Standard Procedures (CSP) following all applicable safety practices.
- Update Calibration Data Sheets.
- Review calibration data received from vendors.
- Ensure that equipment is repaired and maintained in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and/or manufacturer’s specification.
- Performs both scheduled and unplanned work on a wide variety of equipment and systems, including Preventative Maintenance (PM) and Corrective Maintenance work.
- Identify and report low performing or failing systems for pre-emptive corrective actions or upgrade suggestions.
- Supports implementation of upgrades and new engineering / maintenance projects.
- Takes the necessary actions to ensure equipment and/or environment is safe and consistent with relevant laws, codes and/or governing policies.
- Identify needed equipment, parts, and supplies necessary to complete repairs.
- Responsible for coordinating with manufacturing departments to perform work in a timely manner.
- May conduct root cause analyses.
- Strict adherence to procedures and practices according to FDA regulations.
- Strong emphasis on documentation according to FDA regulations.
- Adhere to departmental corporate safety policies.
Job Requirements:
- High School diploma or GED required. Trade School, Vocational Certificate, Associate Degree, or Military training in related field is highly preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years related experience in calibration of manufacturing equipment / instruments is required, preferably in a pharmaceutical, GMP, or FDA regulated environment.
- Equivalency: In lieu of 2 years of experience, candidate must have a minimum of an Associate Degree or Vocational Certification in Instrumentation, Calibration, Electronics Engineering, or closely related technical discipline.
- Requires basic understanding of calibration, instrumentation, and metrology methods.
- Knowledge of pH meters, conductivity meters, ozone meters (temperature, RTD’s Thermocouples), indicators and controllers, pressure and vacuum devises, load cells, liquid flow and level indicators.
- Able to repair, calibrate, install, and rebuild instruments.
- Able to use diagnostic test equipment and precision measuring devices.
- Must have strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify and resolve equipment problems.
- Demonstrated strong mechanical aptitude.
- Able to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings, Piping and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) drawings and schematics.
- Knowledge of safe and proper use of hand, power and measuring tools, as well as basic shop equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret equipment performance data.
- Must be proactive, results oriented, and have strong attention to detail.
- Self-starter with strong work ethic and the ability to exercise good judgment.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks to meet targeted deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with personnel at all levels in a team environment.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
- Computer literacy with proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Specific experience with SAP & AMMS is preferred.
- Must be flexible with working hours / shifts in order to accommodate the 24 hour, 7 day plant operation.
- May also be required to be on call, on a rotating basis.
The estimated pay scale for the Instrumentation Technician role based in Los Angeles, CA, is $28 - $32/per hour. Additionally, the position is eligible to participate in up to 5% of the company bonus pool.
