Lead Refrigeration Mechanic will guide mechanics in performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment used throughout the plant. Lead Refrigeration Mechanic will work closely with the Refrigeration Supervisor / Manager in assuring that all preventative and corrective maintenances assigned to the department are accomplished in a timely manner as not to affect production.
PRIMARY RESPONSABILITIES
* Lead and provide guidance to technicians on improving, repairing, rebuilding and preventive and/or corrective maintenance work on all HVAC / Refrigeration equipment, along with all plant auxiliary systems connected to HVAC / Refrigeration systems
* Monitor the progress of and support as needed on highly skilled tasks including but not limited to pipe fitting, welding, tear down and inspection of compressors, along with rebuilding pumps, valves, and blowers.
* Oversee repairing progress of systems such as, changing motors, replacing bearings, belts, filters and charge refrigeration systems are done correctly and on time by technicians.
* Support technicians on troubleshooting electrical control circuits
* Ensure that equipment is repaired and maintained in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and/or manufacturer’s specification.
* Identify and report low performing or failing systems for pre-emptive corrective actions or upgrade suggestions.
* Support Supervisor on implementing upgrades and new engineering / maintenance projects.
* Takes proactive actions on ensuring equipment and/or environment is safe and consistent with relevant laws, codes and/or governing policies.
* Identify needed equipment, parts, and supplies necessary to complete repairs.
* Coordinate with manufacturing departments to complete work order in a timely manner.
* Conduct root cause analyses.
* Strict adherence to procedures, practices, and documentation according to FDA regulations.
* Adhere to departmental, corporate, and OSHA safety policies.
* Provide on-the-job training to entry level Technicians
* Performs more complex and advanced job tasks.
* Assist management in coordinating and scheduling the department's day to day operations as well as monitoring Technicians' work/ meal break schedule to ensure compliance
* Support and comply to the requirements of ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Must be EPA Universal Certified with copy of valid certification card as proof.
• In-depth understanding in low and medium temperature Refrigeration & Air Conditioning applications, and repair/ maintenance of HVAC / Refrigeration systems.
• Solid knowledge and understanding of cGMPs, FDA regulations, and industry guidelines.
• Advanced in in soldering or brazing pipe/tubing fittings.
• Advanced in using tools and equipment used in the HVAC / Refrigeration field.
• Advanced in in repairing and rebuilding machinery or mechanical equipment.
• Decent professional knowledge in Building Automation Systems is a plus.
• Advanced troubleshooting skills in identifying and resolving equipment problems.
• Demonstrated strong mechanical aptitude.
• Expert in reading and understanding mechanical and electrical drawings, Piping and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) drawings and schematics.
• Solid knowledge of safe and proper use of hand, power and measuring tools, as well as basic shop equipment.
• Expert in reading and interpreting equipment performance data.
• Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate, guide, train, coach and develop department personnel.
• Comfortable to work independently with minimum supervision as well as basic managerial skill
• Must be proactive, results oriented, and have strong attention to detail.
• Self-starter with strong work ethic and the ability to exercise good judgment.
• Strong multi-tasking ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks to meet targeted deadlines.
• Strong interpersonal skills to interact with personnel at all levels in a team environment.
• Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
• Computer literacy with proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Specific experience with SAP & AMMS is preferred.
• Standard OSHA knowledge on applicable safe work practices and process safety management
• Grifols is a 24-hour per day, 7 days a week operation; all mechanics will be required to be flexible to work schedule such as working off shift, be on call on a rotating basis, and working overtime.
EDUCATION
* Associates degree in a relevant technical field
* Universal Refrigeration Certification
EXPERIENCE
8 years of related industrial or commercial experience in maintenance of HVAC / Refrigeration equipment, preferably in a pharmaceutical, GMP, or FDA regulated environment.
The estimated pay scale for the Group Leader - Refrigeration role based in Los Angeles, CA, is $44.00 - $58.00 per hour. Additionally, the position is eligible to participate in up to 5% of the company bonus pool. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on education, experience, skillset, knowledge, where the role is performed, internal equity and market data.
