Job Summary:
Manage all aspects of Engineering and Maintenance units/operations or large capital projects. Unit operations head of 1 to 2 units. Responsible for safety, regulatory and/or environmental compliance. Assures continuous improvement of processes. Uses expertise gained through wide exposure in previous assignments and experience by focusing on areas for planning, scheduling, organizing, performance management, financial management, administrative skills, QA, regulatory and validation.
Essential Job Duties:
- Demonstrated skills in managing projects to bring in on budget, on schedule, and technically correct.
- Oversee and supervise all aspects of Engineering in support of the business unit.
- Usually involves management of cross-functional teams or significant resources.
- Benchmarks technology against major competitors.
- Maintain and monitor budget and expenses.
- Oversee the design, installation, testing, maintenance, and enhancement of facilities and equipment.
- Demonstrates a high level of facilitation skills to reach consensus; works toward win-win solutions for business benefit.
- Develops opportunities within the corporation and with external entities.
- Responsible for the recruitment, training, evaluation, and development of employees.
- Meets customer expectations and continuously improves process technology or capital process through improved productivity and quality, in consultation with internal departments and external resources.
- Manages the necessary resources and suitable technology of the equipment and facilities required to manufacture products in accordance with the safety, environmental, regulatory, and business goals and standards.
- Review and recommend contracts as well as develop cost estimates.
- Translates vision into reality by deciphering corporate message and implementing strategy.
- Interprets business strategy and develops objectives to align with and support the strategy.
- Works on issues of a diverse scope where analysis of the situation requires the evaluation of a variety of factors.
- Develops and administers schedules.
- Guides staff to achieve tactical and strategic business goals. Develops value-added solutions that meet internal and/or external customer needs.
- Manages the functional processes and staff for a department; may manage through subordinate supervisors/managers.
- Guides a group of staff to achieve tactical and strategic business goals.
- Responsible for results including costing, methods, and staffing. Typically reports to a Department Head; may report to another Department Leader.
- Strong tactical decision-maker with ability to handle unforeseen issues. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve results will add to costs and may impact the short-term goals of the company.
- Frequently interacts cross-functionally with peer managers. Interaction normally requires the ability to gain the cooperation of others.
- May develop and recommend with senior management financial goals/budgets for a single department.
- Recommends how resources should be allocated within the department in order to meet business goals.
- Moderate spending authority includes purchase requisitions and expense reports.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field of study, advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of comprehensive experience in a medium-sized organization. Biotech or Chemical industry favorable.
- Provides effective leadership to employees in engineering operations.
- Interacts with senior executives, senior technical managers, business heads, customers, and suppliers within and external to the company.
- Knowledge of engineering programs, systems, and procedures.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to demonstrate practical applications and flexibility in adapting programs and services to meet specific requirements.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to multitask.
- Demonstrates high levels of value and integrity.
- Instills company visions, values, and beliefs in others by example.
- Actively pursues and manages process optimization and project management.
- Proactively develops positive community and employee relations.
- Coaches, counsels, manages, and directs personnel in appropriate division/business unit assignments relative to hanging priorities, sense of urgency, and utilization of multiple skill sets.
The estimated pay scale for the Electrical Building Maintenance Manager role based in Los Angeles, CA, is $118,500 - $155,000/per year. Additionally, the position is eligible to participate in up to 8% of the company bonus pool. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on education, experience, skillset, knowledge, where the role is performed, internal equity and market data.
